The newly developed replica of the VW T4 fuel filler neck inner sill is made from 1 mm sheet metal and consists of two parts which have been carefully welded together. Almost all VW T4 models suffer from rust problems on this particular part, whereby the inner sill of the fuel filler neck is often completely rusted through.

The exact cause of rust formation on this normally protected area is unclear, but it is thought that rainwater flowing along the fuel filler cap and filler neck seal keeps the area constantly damp. Some VW T4 owners believe that fuel dripping onto the sheet metal through the overflow is gradually eroding or damaging the corrosion protection.

Regardless of the exact cause, it is important to remove the rust at this point. The newly designed VW T4 fuel filler neck inner sill plate allows the rusted sheet metal to be generously removed to create a clean and accessible surface for welding. A hole for cavity sealing is also provided.
